We are committed to placing cats and kittens in homes compatible with your and the animal's needs.
Adoption process:
-
Review our adoption policy to make sure it is acceptable to you (see below).
-
Complete our Adoption Application form.
(Select your preferred cat/kitten from our adoption gallery, click on his/her picture to go to a full page description and then click on the Adopt name link to fill out our online application. You may add several alternate or additional cats to the same application form.)
-
An adoption coordinator will contact you as soon as possible to review your application and ask questions helpful in finding the right cat/kitten for you.
-
We will schedule an appointment for you to meet the cat so you can decide whether or not he/she is the one you really want. The meeting will be at our sanctuary, one of our off-site adoption centers, or the cat's foster home.
-
After the adoption coordinator approves the adoption, you may take the cat/kitten home. The adoption is finalized with the signed Adoption Contract and payment of the adoption fee. You will receive an information packet which should answer many of your questions about cat/kitten care.
-
We will follow up with you in about two weeks to make sure that you and the cat/kitten are getting along well. However, we encourage you to contact your adoption coordinator at any time with any concerns you may have.
Adoption policy:
-
The Cat House on the Kings selects adoptive homes at its sole discretion based on the needs and best interests of the cat. Therefore The Cat House on the Kings reserves the right to deny any adoption application.
-
The adopter must be at least 18 years old.
-
We adopt on a first-come, first-served basis.
You have 48 hours after we approve your application to make an appointment to pick up your cat.
If this time frame does not work for you, please contact us promptly to discuss specific arrangements.
-
We screen prospective adopters before they come to our facility.
-
We require cats and kittens to be kept indoors at all times.
-
We discourage declawing (and can advise on alternatives).
-
We do not adopt small kittens to families with young children.
-
The adopter must pick up the cat in person from The Cat House on the Kings sanctuary or off-site Adoption Center. If you live outside Central California, you will have to travel to our adoption center in Central California where the cat is being cared for. To ensure the safety of the cats in our care, we will neither transport or ship them nor will we allow a third party to pick up the cat on the adopter's behalf. We may make an exception on a case-by-case basis for an immediate member of the adopter's family. If this requirement is not acceptable to you, please do not submit an application!
-
If you choose to travel from out of the area to The Cat House on the Kings and adopt from us, you must agree to accept 100% of the financial responsibility for the care of the cat(s) and that if something does not work out with the cat(s), you will be responsible for returning the cat(s) to us safely at your expense. (We do not have the ability or financial resources to travel out of the area to retrieve our cats.) If this requirement is not acceptable to you, please do not submit an application!
-
We require both a photo ID & proof of current address (e.g. driver's license or recent utility bill).
-
We ask that people who rent show proof that pets are allowed.
-
Payment in cash is required at our off-site adoption center and preferred at the sanctuary.
Adoption Fee:
Unless otherwise noted for a specific cat, our adoption fees are as follows:
$20/cat ($30 for two) $50/kitten ($75 for two) |
All cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for FeLV/FIV, treated for fleas and ear mites, microchipped and litter-box trained prior to adoption.
|
Adoption fees help to offset rescue and medical expenses but rarely exceed them. Additional donations are always welcome.
